The Flags Tournament will be held Friday, Aug 29th at BCC. The rules are simple:
Definition: Flags is a competition format in which golfers begin the round of golf with an allotment of strokes, then play the golf course until their strokes run out.
The game gets its name from the fact that little flags are usually given to competitors to stick in the ground at the point from which their final shot is played.
The golfer who stakes his flag the farthest around the course is the winner. Example: Your allotment is 48 strokes. You play the course until you hit your 48th shot (where the ball lands), which, let's say, comes on the 8th fairway. That's where you plant your flag. If no other player's flag is planted beyond yours - say, on the 8th green (please mark distance from pin on scorecard and put your flag next to the green and not on the green) or 9th tee box - you are the winner.
Flags will be played using 75% of players handicaps as of 8-24-12 to determine the stroke allotment. A player with a handicap of 20, for example, receives 48 strokes on a par-33 course. (20 x .75)= 15 plus par of 33 for a total of 48 strokes).
Using partial handicaps, especially seventy- five percent, usually means that nearly all players will use up their strokes before completing 9 holes.
If players are tied after completing the 9th hole with the same amount of strokes left over( in your pocket), they will start on hole # 1 as the 1st playoff hole until the strokes are depleted and the closest to the pin wins.If there are no strokes left over after nine holes, and two or more players have completed the hole, the tournament will end in a tie.If the tee shot on hole # 9 is the final shot for all players in contention, closest to the pin on or off the green will determine the winner.
